Under the prescriptive authority of a licensed physician the occupational therapist is responsible for performing functional evaluations/re-evaluations to determine the beneficiary's need for treatment and therapeutic services. Occupational therapy services provided must be skilled (requiring the skills, knowledge, and education of a licensed occupational therapist) and include but are not limited to: OBRA assessments, therapeutic procedures, neuromuscular re-education, gait training, manual therapy techniques, sensory integrated techniques, community or work reintegration therapy, self-care/home management training, wheelchair management/propulsion training, and assistive technology assessments. As part of the treatment plan, the occupational therapist may monitor and train assigned staff, consumers and families regarding implementation of programs for consumers as identified in the Plan of Service (POS). Service will be provided consistent with qualitative and quantitative performance goals and standards established for clinical staff, applicable Medicaid program descriptions, Habilitation Supports Waiver Guidelines, and Joint Commission standards. Reports to the Adult Services Department Head. JOB REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required. Education, Training and Licensing Credentials: Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program with MI licensure. One (1) year experience working with MI & DD populations. Must be trained and have experience in sensory integration assessment and treatment. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide the appropriate care for the specific clinical needs and ages of the individuals served. Demonstrated knowledge of the clinical needs, symptoms, and behaviors of individuals served, as well as understand the principles of growth and development over the life span; have the ability to assess data reflecting each individual’s status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each individual’s requirements in relation to his or her age-specific/population specific needs; and to provide the care needed by the appropriate age group –children, adult and geriatric. Other Competencies and Abilities: Ability to work in a complex, detail-oriented, deadline structured, busy organization. The following physical and mental abilities are required: frequent lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds, must be able to hear, frequent sitting/standing/walking, ability to communicate effectively in person and/or phone, the ability to read, analyze and interpret information, ability to write correspondence and procedures, ability to maintain records, ability to solve practical problems, ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, ability to influence others. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and such other applications if/when required. Ability to be trained and successfully complete other computer training as required. Valid driver’s license, proof of current automobile insurance and driving record determined by the Authority’s insurance carrier to be eligible for coverage if required as part of positions duties.
