ONSITE ENERGY PLANT MANAGER
Location: Sterling Heights, MI
GENERAL SUMMARY
This position is responsible for overseeing, managing and directing the day to day operation and maintenance activities for utility and energy-related assets located within a powerhouse and throughout the associated facility. Utility systems and powerhouse infrastructure experience is required, particularly in the competitive, non-regulated energy market. Experience supervising unionized labor is important. Work involves performing difficult and complex services requiring a high level of independent judgment, initiative and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.
PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure that the utility assets are operated in a safe, environmentally-responsible manner while satisfying the utility and energy requirements of the customer
Supervise and direct the daily activities of all plant personnel, including an hourly workforce consisting of operators and skilled trades
Understand and adhere to all commercial and contractual obligations
Act as the onsite liaison between the Company and the customer
Ensure that all financial goals are met
Provide oversight to direct reports in the management of all energy conservation initiatives
Develop and manage annual O&M budget and cost-saving measures
Manage site purchasing and inventory control processes
Prepare and issue weekly and monthly reports in a timely, consistent manner
Support the development and implementation of all Onsite Energy business unit initiatives and best practices
Develop and maintain a close working relationship with key customer personnel
Perform other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Eight or more years of experience in the operation and maintenance of powerhouses, utility systems or similar plant assets
An understanding of the operation and maintenance of plant equipment, including the importance of ensuring high availability, reliability and efficiency
Working knowledge of equipment such as boilers, air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, electrical distribution, lighting, HVAC, mist/dust collectors, weld water and waste treatment systems, turbines, fans, heat exchangers, transformers, motors, piping/valves, etc.
An understanding of energy efficiency practices and energy conservation techniques
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
Capable of working alone or as part of a team without a significant level of supervision
Ability to understand and administer complex commercial agreements related to the production of energy and the provision of reliable energy services to a client on a 24 hour per day, 7-day per week basis
Ability to develop and manage operating & maintenance budgets
Ability to balance time and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Capable of promoting and maintaining strong, positive relationships with coworkers, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and customers
Willingness to share expertise and knowledge with other team members for the benefit of the entire Onsite Energy business unit
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Proficiency in MS computer applications, including Word and Excel in a Windows environment
Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader
Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional and business leader, who collaborate on employee issues and decisions (including performance management, compensation and development)
